Donations to the Ottawa Public Library

OpenConcept has once again made a donation of books to Ottawa's Public Library. In 2008 we made a similar, but smaller, donation but since then the selection of resources have grown considerably.

There are now 16 titles in the library's catalog and our donation includes a number of Drupal 7 books which have yet to be distributed.

The growth of interest in Drupal is continuing to grow and we believe that it benefits everyone to make resources widely available. Donating books in the past has brought us staff, but also helps our client base.

The four Lullabot DVD's we provided will be a base for our clients to easily gain confidence in using their sites.

I would encourage other Drupal shops to make donations of books that they like to local libraries to help the next generation of users & developers use this great platform better. Most libraries don't need or want to deal with old used copies of technology books.  We've all probably got copies of a Netscape Navigator 4 kicking around, and they should stay as door stops.

It is also useful to know that many libraries cannot purchase great resources from sources like Lullabot and Packt Publishing directly.

It is also worth noting that the Ottawa Public Library is also using Drupal for their main site. Like many other libraries they have found this an effective platform for communicating with their membership. They also presented in the Drupal in Government showcase that we organized earlier this year.
