This was a more in-person presentation about web accessibility issues in general.  We showcased some general issues and facilitating a bit of a discussion to raise awareness. We welcomed people from different backgrounds, including government services, universities and design agencies. The topic was addressed to a non-technical audience to raise awareness on accessibility.

Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) began pretty well this year for us. I started by participating in Inclusive Design 24 (#ID24) with a 7am presentation. For those who missed it the talk live, a recording should be available soon.  In the interim, I quickly posted the presentation to SlideShare. We wanted to talk about how Drupal got it's accessibility advantage. 

We are also happy that we were able to organize a sold out GAAD lunch talk at HubOttawa. This was a more in-person presentation about web accessibility issues in general.  We showcased some general issues and facilitating a bit of a discussion to raise awareness. In both presentations I mentioned the WAVE Toolbar and the following Chrome & Firefox color contrast extensions.

I also wrote a blog post, with help from the Drupal Association, talking about GAAD and Drupal's accessibility efforts.

Next step will be the International Accessibility Summit in Ottawa, organized by Carleton University, that will take place in July 12-15 at Ottawa's Convention Center. I will be presenting on how to make Web content accessible on July 13, so make sure you don't miss it!

OpenConcept has made a big contribution to Drupal's accessibility over the years.  We also organized the A11yYOW conference in 2011 to bring together people interested in accessibility in the Ottawa area.
